Sou (想) Musk Melon — Set of 2
Brought directly from Kochi — only by Hokkaido Uni Shop.

What is Sou Musk Melon?
Sou (想) is an exceptional musk melon from Kochi, Japan, known for its superb sweetness and deep flavor. It's the product of generations of skilled cultivation and comes hand-bagged — each fruit covered on the vine — to protect the skin and bring out its quality. This set includes two premium melons.

Like the finest Japanese musk melons, it's grown for concentrated sweetness and an even flavor from rind to center, with the netted skin that forms as it ripens and a soft, juicy, melting texture. Each melon weighs about 1.5–2 kg. Presented in a traditional kiri (paulownia) box wrapped in furoshiki, it's built as a gift.

When it's ripe

A musk melon ships firm and ripens at room temperature. Two signs tell you it's ready: the stem (the T-shaped vine on top) dries out — the base stays green while the tips go brown — and the bottom softens, giving slightly when you press it with a thumb. Once ripe, chill it a few hours before serving and eat within a day or two.

How to cut & enjoy

Cut off the stem, then slice the melon in half top-to-bottom rather than across — the bottom is the sweetest part, and cutting lengthwise gives every piece an even share. Scoop out the seeds and pulp (strain the pulp through a sieve for pure melon juice), cut each half into quarters, run the knife between skin and flesh, then slice into wedges. Serve chilled as is, with prosciutto, over ice cream, or as a fruit course.

Pairing notes — on its own well chilled, with prosciutto, over vanilla ice cream, or with a sparkling wine.

Ripening & handling: Arrives firm to allow for shipping. Keep at room temperature until the stem dries and the bottom softens to a gentle press, then refrigerate and eat within a day or two. Presented as a gift set in a kiri box with furoshiki. A pre-order item that usually takes about a week to prepare. Any transit damage should be reported to the carrier directly.
