What is Shiofuki Konbu?
Shiofuki konbu (塩吹き昆布) is seasoned salted kelp — Hokkaido kombu cut into fine, pine-needle strips and lightly seasoned, ready to eat straight from the bag. Unlike the kelp you use to make dashi, this is finished and flavored: soft and quick to melt in the mouth, with a gentle, springy chew. It's made on the lighter side for salt.
It's seasoned simply — soy, mirin, a little sugar, salt, sake, and rice vinegar — with no MSG, no hydrolyzed protein, and no yeast extract, so the flavor leans on the kombu itself. Good over rice or folded into vegetables, meat, or fish, as a topping or a seasoning. Now in a resealable zip bag.

How to enjoy
Eat it as is over warm rice, or use it as a seasoning. It works on top of a rice bowl, mixed into onigiri, stirred through pasta or salad, or added to simmered vegetables, meat, or fish to season them without extra salt or stock. Because it's already seasoned, a small amount adds both umami and a light salt — start with a little.
Pairing notes — warm rice, onigiri, salads, pasta, simmered vegetables, tofu, and green tea.
