What is Fuyu Kaki?
Fuyu kaki (富有柿) is a Japanese sweet persimmon, often called the king of sweet persimmons. It's known for a juicy sweetness and a firm texture that turns creamy as it ripens. This mini-size pack holds 16 pieces — a good amount for sharing, or for enjoying over several days as they ripen at different rates.
The nice thing about fuyu is that you get to choose the texture. Eaten firm, it's crisp and refreshing, like a sweet apple-pear; left to mature a few days, it softens to a creamy, honeyed richness. It's a winter fruit, in season from October to January, grown in Nara, Gifu, and Wakayama depending on supply.

How to enjoy
Eat it firm for a crisp bite, or leave it at room temperature a few days to soften and sweeten. Peel and cut into wedges to eat fresh, slice into salads, or serve with cheese or as a light dessert. Chilling it a little before serving sharpens the sweetness. Since the 16 pieces ripen at different rates, you can eat some crisp now and let the rest mature.
Pairing notes — on its own, in salads, with cheese, or as a fruit course.
